CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The heat can impact people and pets and phones too.

Chris Serico, a spokesperson for Verizon, says there are things people can do to protect their phone during a heat wave.

One tip is reduce the brightness of the screen.

Serico says it can be hard for some people because they may want to turn up the brightness when they are out in sunny areas, but that can cause the phone to overheat.

Another tip is to close all unused apps.

Also, don’t leave the phone in the car.

“You wouldn’t do it with a pet. You wouldn’t do it with a family member. Don’t do it to your phone,” said Serico. “All three don’t respond well to extreme heat, myself especially. So make sure your phone is in cool temperatures across the board.”
