CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Charlottesville Police Department is investigating a fatal crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

On Saturday evening, CPD responded to the 700 block of Nassau Street around 7:35 p.m. When officers arrived on scene, police found 42-year-old Edward Fitzhugh Anderson of Charlottesville, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say that the driver of the vehicle, an adult female, remained at the scene.

Upon further investigation and testimony, CPD says Anderson allegedly attacked the female, while she was in her parked vehicle. The female attempted to get away from the attack, striking Anderson with her vehicle.

According to CPD, this attack was not provoked, and neither party knew the other.

There are no charges pending. This remains an active investigation.
