CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A bridge team from the University of Virginia is going to be competing in the 2024 Collegiate Bridge Bowl later this month at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto, Canada.

Hoos Playing Bridge, a team composed of Alan Hale, Cade Johnson, Katie Sullivan and Anthony Wang, will play against teams from Canada and the United States on July 25-27.

Bronia Jenkins, the executive director of the American Contract Bridge League, congratulated them on earning a spot.

“Witnessing the skill and dedication of these young players is a testament to the appeal of this game. We’re honored to provide a platform for the next generation of bridge lovers to hone their talents and foster a positive community of fellow players,” said Jenkins.

Winners of the bowl will receive scholarship money, which includes $10,000 for the top team and $3,000 for the first-place pair.
