Bennett named one of 'World's Greatest Leaders'

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- On Thursday, "Fortune Magazine" released its sixth annual list of the "World's 50 Greatest Leaders."

Bill and Melinda Gates are at No. 1 on the list. New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Adern ranks No. 2, followed at No. 3 by former FBI director Robert Mueller. And down the list at No. 48 is the head coach of the reigning NCAA men's basketball champion, Virginia's Tony Bennett.

Fortune pointed to the way Bennett and his team handled the humiliation of last year's first-round loss to UMBC in the NCAA Tournament, and used that experience as motivation on the way to the program's first-ever NCAA title. The magazine also credited the Cavaliers for their "disciplined, stifling defense."

UVA beat Texas Tech 85-77 in overtime earlier this month to cap the Cavaliers' run to the 2019 NCAA title. It was Bennett's first-ever appearance in the Final Four as a head coach, and the third in UVA program history, in his 10th season at the school.
