CACF, UVA Health seeking grant applicants to support health initiatives

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Area nonprofits can now apply for grants to support community health initiatives.

The funding is being made available by a partnership between the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation and the University of Virginia Health System.

There will be three grant opportunities for nonprofits that are not affiliated with UVA, with the first one called Shaping Futures. A grant opportunity currently seeking applicants is called Shaping Futures.

"The Community Foundation has received national recognition for their focus on equity," said Elizabeth Beasley, the director of community relations for the UVA Health System. "To that end, we can't think of a better community partner to help us steward these resources towards programming that improves community health for all residents in the area. We are honored to partner and grateful for their willingness to support our efforts."

"We are so pleased to embark on this journey with the University of Virginia Health System," said CACF President Brennan Gould. " This partnership allows us to leverage our resources for broader impact on persistent health trends and disparities that are affecting our region."

CACF says it is looking for proposals to improve the health of communities in Charlottesville as well as the counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa and Nelson.

Proposals for the Shaping Futures grant should look to improve health outcomes identified in the MAPP2Health Community Health Improvement Plan.

These outcomes include promoting healthy eating and active living, addressing mental health and substance use, reducing health disparities and improving access to care, and fostering a healthy and connected community for all ages.

Applications for this grant will be accepted until July 1. Nonprofits that have previously gotten CACF grants through the Shaping Futures or Strengthening Systems programs are eligible to apply now if their previous grant has ended, all grant funds have been paid and the final report has been submitted and approved.
