CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A Charlottesville man has been arrested for breaking into vehicles in the Johnson Village area in the south end of the city.

According to the Charlottesville Police Department, 20-year-old Tyriq Antionous Bullock is facing charges of petit and grand larceny.

Police say officers responded to a call regarding someone breaking into vehicles around 12:50 a.m. Tuesday in the area of Trailridge Road and Shamrock Road.

When they arrived, officers found a vehicle with its interior light on, and the owner told them money had been taken from the center console.

About an hour later, officers briefly chased a suspect who was known to be wanted on outstanding warrants from Rockingham County.

When that person, identified as Bullock, was searched at the time of his arrest, police found items that had been stolen from several vehicles.

The police department says it has responded to more than ten reports of vehicle larcenies in the Johnson Village neighborhood within the last two weeks.

Residents are reminded to lock their vehicle doors and never leave valuable items in them.
