DGIF Refer-a-Friend program for fishing licenses

RICHMOND, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Anglers can recruit their friends, family or anyone they know who might be interested in fishing and get rewards.

The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries is launching a campaign called Refer-a-Friend to Fish.

Currently licensed anglers who refer anyone to buy their first fishing license through an online account will be an exclusive free gift from DGIF and discounts to Green Top Hunting and Fishing.

Those who successfully refer a new person will also be entered into a sweepstakes to win monthly prizes, including a Yeti Cooler, a $100 gift card to Green Top Hunting and Fishing, or a new rod.

DGIF says anglers are conservationists who play a significant role in supporting the state agency's mission to conserve fish and wildlife and their habitats.

Each license that is purchased helps to fund efforts to provide for sustainable resources and increased opportunities to enjoy them.

DGIF says the goal of this campaign is to motivate current anglers to introduce someone new to fishing.
