FLUVANNA COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- On Monday, Democrat Dr. Elizabeth Alcorn announced her campaign at the Fluvanna Public Library for the 58th District seat in the Virginia House of Delegates.
She is trying to unseat incumbent Republican Rob Bell, who has represented the district since 2002.
The 58th district includes parts of Rockingham, Albemarle and Fluvanna counties, and all of Greene County.
Alcorn has lived in Virginia for most of her life and currently resides in Dyke.
She is a dentist and works with her husband to build affordable housing in Albemarle County.
Alcorn says some issues she would work toward include getting public schools funded by the state, making sure health insurance companies are regulated and advocating for renewable energy.
"I have a lot of experience as a small business person. I have a lot of experience in health care. I can really relate to voters on family issues that we see here in the district and that's what I'm going to bring to the table," she said.
Other issues she said she will push for include raising the minimum wage and striving for racial justice.
