CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Great Harvest Bread Company is holding a Christmas in July back-to-school drive in partnership with the Salvation Army.
The bakery is asking customers to bring in school supplies like backpacks, notebooks, pens and pencils all week. The Salvation Army also has provided a new automated system that accepts $10 donations on credit cards. That money will go toward school supplies also.
Great Harvest owner Aileen Magnotto says the bakery is holding the drive because there are children in need year-round, not just at the holidays.
"The area of Charlottesville has been super generous for all of the fundraising that we've done. We've done it at Easter time, we do things at Christmas time,” she said. “And at Christmas in July, we're just overwhelmed by the generosity of the people in Charlottesville."
This is Great Harvest's third year doing the school supply drive. Magnotto says anyone who makes a donation will receive a free, baked treat in return.
This back to school drive lasts through Saturday.
