Kyna Thomas hired as city council's new clerk, chief of staff

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- At the beginning of the Charlottesville City Council meeting Monday night, city councilors announced that Kyna Thomas will be their new clerk and chief of staff.

Councilors voted 4-0, with Wes Bellamy being absent from the vote, to approve Thomas' contract.

She will be taking over for Paige Rice, who left her position last September.

Thomas served as the deputy clerk of council in Lynchburg.

She will start her new position in Charlottesville on Jan. 28.
