Peloton Station hosts holiday light night ride

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- People gathered outside of Peloton Station with their bikes and helmets decked out in Christmas decorations to spread holiday cheer during a holiday light night ride.

Todd Ely, a bike tech at Peloton Station, said when they host events like this, it's for everyone to join.

"We are always thinking about fun, interesting things we can do in the bicycling community, but in the community at large," said Ely.

Maddux Nachtreb is ten years old and riding in style on a tandem bike with his uncle. He said he believes more people should join in on the fun of biking.

"I think people should ride more," said Nachtreb. "Because they don't want to sit inside all day. I mean it was a beautiful day today. It's a beautiful night."

He said being able to see Christmas lights while riding is just an extra perk.

Mitchell Slaymaker, a mechanic at Peloton Station, said the holidays are the perfect time of year for riding a bike around town.

"It's a lot more fun. You get much more into the spirit of Christmas I think being outside," said Slaymaker. "It's a different vibe than sitting in your car with the heater running."

Nachtreb said the chilly weather is not an excuse to not enjoy the outdoors.

"Go outside. Have fun. Play," said Nachtreb.
