Police give safety tips on holiday travel season

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- AAA reports more than 97 million people will be hitting the roads this week. However, those extra cars can mean extra accidents for travelers.

Officer Michael Henry from the Charlottesville Police Department warns drivers to take their time driving to their holiday destinations.

"It's very important you don't be rushing. A lot of mistakes are made when people are rushing to decisions out on the road,” said Henry. “A lot of traffic accidents really increase, especially in the shopping district. So just be sure to take your time where you’re going.”
