Racist robocalls impacting Charlottesville area residents and businesses

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Robocalls filled with racist rhetoric are making their way around to Charlottesville-area residents and businesses.

The CBS19 Newsroom received one of these recordings in its voicemail on Saturday calling for the repeal of the U.S. Constitution's 15th Amendment, which gave African-Americans the right to vote.

The recording also calls for ethnic cleansing by expelling everyone but White people to other countries.

The call shows up with a 434 area code, and Captain Darrell Byers with the Albemarle County Police Department said law enforcement has traced them to a white supremacist group from Idaho.

They claim to be paid for by "The Road to Power," a white supremacist group from Idaho.

While the calls are unwanted and annoying, police say they are not illegal.

Similar robocalls have been made around the country and were apparently made after events that received national attention, like the violence in Charlottesville last year.

Anyone who receives this type of call is asked to report it to police immediately.
