Three killed in overnight fire near Dillwyn

BUCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Officials report three people were killed in an overnight house fire in Buckingham County.

The fire occurred on the 20300 block of East James Anderson Highway near Dillwyn.

The Virginia State Police is investigating and says three bodies were found inside the home after the fire was put out early Monday morning.

Officials have not yet identified the victims, but a young man who says he is the son of one of them says they are his mother, step-father and 10-year-old brother.

Isiah Nelson identified the victims as Collette Booker, Earl Booker and Naquarius Booker.

Long-time resident and neighbor Sandra Witt, who lives across the street, says the family had lived in the rental home for about three years.

Around 5 a.m. Monday, she says she and her husband heard a loud bang.

"Something like a boom, like a car door or a car hood slamming shut hard or something, then my husband got up and looked out the window and saw the house was on fire. I called 911 but it had already been reported," Witt said.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown and the investigation into it is ongoing.

Relatives say the Booker family recently suffered another loss, when a 16-year-old son was killed in a car crash just a few weeks ago.
