Upcoming expo on engaging voters with disabilities

RICHMOND, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Virginia Department of Elections will be hosting a Voters with Disabilities Engagement Expo later this month to promote awareness about the variety of resources available to help people in the disability community with voting.

The April 30 event at the Eastern Henrico Recreation Center aims to connect citizens with voter education information and provide networking opportunities for voters and member of the elections community.

People who attend the expo will be able to view demonstrations, engage with hands-on accessible voting equipment, pick up voter outreach information, and interact with state agency staff and equipment vendors to get answers to questions about elections.

Information will be available on election accessibility, curbside voting, absentee voting, Virginia Voter Pocket Guides and more.

“We are excited to offer the opportunity to ensure that the voting process is accessible to all Virginia voters,” said Department of Elections Commissioner Christopher E. Pipe. “We want to make sure that voters are informed about the resources that are available to them."

Other agencies that serve the disability community will also be on hand with information about their resource.

These include Aging and Rehabilitative Services, the Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired, the Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and the disAbility Law Center of Virginia.
