Tom Sox begin south division championship series with loss

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 Sports) The Tom Sox kicked off the series against the Staunton Braves in the South Division Championships of the Valley Baseball League playoffs tonight.

The Braves came into the series after a few days rest, after sweeping the top-seeded Waynesboro Generals.

They would keep their winning momentum going tonight, starting off the series against the Tom Sox with a 3-1 win.

Early in the top of the first inning, the Braves got on the board with a three-run home run from Ryan McCarthy.

Pitching was also strong for the Braves, Hayden Moore completed six innings with six strikeouts and only allowing five hits. The Tom Sox would only score one run on the Braves, after a throwing error to third base brought home James Ingram.

With tonight's win for the Braves, they could close out the series back in Staunton tomorrow night. If the Tom Sox win tomorrow's game, the two teams will return to Charlottesville on Sunday for the rubber match.
