BLACKSBURG, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- It took some extra work, but Virginia Tech is set to play in a bowl game for the 26th straight year. The Hokies will face Cincinnati in the Military Bowl on December 31.
Virginia Tech's 26 year bowl streak is the longest current streak in the country, and the third longest in college football history.
It will be the fourth meeting in a bowl game between the Hokies and Bearcats. Virginia Tech is 2-1 against Cincinnati in its previous bowl meetings, including a 33-17 win in the 2014 Military Bowl. Virginia Tech also won a meeting in the 2009 Orange bowl. Cincinnati's lone bowl win over Virginia Tech came in the Hokies first ever bowl game, the 1946 Sun Bowl.
The Hokies, coming off two straight wins to close out the year, are 6-6. Cincinnati enters the meeting 10-2.
