Hokies enter "playoff football" against 'Hoos

BLACKSBURG, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Virginia Tech's 25 year bowl streak is in serious jeopardy entering Friday's game at home against Virginia.

If the Hokies beat Virginia, Virginia Tech will host Marshall December 1 with a chance to get to six wins, and extend the nation's longest bowl streak. Entering Friday's game against Virginia, the Hokies are 4-6.

"Essentially playoff football for us," head coach Justin Fuente said. "Between this game, this rivalry game, if we win we get another game."

Virginia Tech has won 14 straight Commonwealth Cups. That includes being 2-0 against Bronco Mendenhall. But with Virginia being 7-4 entering the game, Fuente said it will not be an easy task to make it 15 wins in a row.

"A tremendous challenge. Bronco's done a fantastic job with his squad. They're playing with confidence and toughness and discipline."
