BLACKSBURG, Va. (CBS19 Sports) -- Tre Turner is returning to the Virginia Tech offense as a sophomore with experience under his belt and goals for the upcoming season.
As the Hokies get into the swing of fall football camp, the offense is looking to make a splash.
“This offseason compared to last offseason is completely different,” said Turner. “Last year you can tell a lot of us were complacent and a lot of guys didn't care. Now you can see everybody's bought in, we're all ready to win. We're all bought in on one goal and that's too win.”
Turner’s freshman season was strong -- the wide receiver averaged about 20 yards per catch, and had two touchdown in Tech’s final five games of the 2018 season. He finished the season fourth on Tech’s roster in terms of targets.
After a 6-6 season last year, the sophomore believes the receiving core made strides over the offseason.
“The overall receiving core, we look at ourselves and we wanna be the best unit on and off on the team,” said Turner. “And that's just, bottom line, we wanna be the best so we're gonna come out and work everyday like we are the best.”
The Hokies open up their season on the road against Boston College on August 31.
