'Hoos struggle to throw strikes in loss to FSU

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Five Virginia pitchers combined to give up 13 hits and walk 11 batters in Thursday's 14-2 loss at home to Florida State.

Starter Mike Vasil (2-3) took the loss after giving up eight runs on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings, with four strikeouts and four walks. The Seminoles then blew the game open with a five-run seventh inning. Four of those runs were charged to Evan Sperling, who walked four of the six batters he faced in 2/3 of an inning.

Four different Florida State players had two-hit nights, including JC Flowers, who drove in four runs, on a two-run home run off Vasil in the first inning, and a two-run single to cap FSU's five-run seventh.

UVA finished with nine hits as a team, including two by Tanner Morris, who also scored both of the Cavaliers' runs. The Wahoos left 10 runners on base as a team.
