Packer Jr. to play tennis at UVA-Wise

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Ever since Cleve Packer Jr. was little, he remembers going to watch college tennis matches at Boar's Head Sports Club and on Wednesday he realized his dream of getting to play college tennis.

"For me just to play is an honor and a blessing," Packer Jr. said.

Charlottesville High School honored Packer Jr. on Wednesday for his commitment to play tennis at the University of Virginia-Wise. From the moment he stepped on campus at UVA-Wise, Packer Jr. knew it was his future home.

"After I visited UVA-Wise I knew that it was a place for me," Packer Jr. said, "I was comfortable with the surroundings, the coach was great, the area is really nice."

Packer Jr. played as the number one singles and doubles for Charlottesville all four years. He also helped lead the Black Knights to reach back-to-back Region 4D Semifinals in the past two seasons, while serving as co-captain this past season.
