Three former Wahoos on US Women's World Cup team

The United States national team that will play in the Women's World Cup this summer in France will include three former Virginia soccer players.

Midfielder Morgan Brian and defenders Becky Sauerbrunn and Emily Sonnett were all among the 23 players on the US roster released this week.

Sauerbrunn, who will make her third Women's World Cup appearance, and Brian were both on the US team that won the tournament in 2015. Sonnett is one of 11 first-time selections on the US roster.

The USA is one of four teams in Group F of this year's Women's World Cup, and will open play against Thailand on June 11. Before leaving for Europe, the US team will play a 'send-off series' of matches against South Africa (May 12 in Santa Clara), New Zealand (May 16 in St. Louis) and Mexico (May 26 in Harrison, NJ).
