CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- The Charlottesville Tom Sox won their third straight on the season after taking their home opener 9-3 over Covington.
The Tom Sox got off to a quick start after Walker Imwalle singled to right to drive in two runs, followed up by Jacob Talley with a ground-rule double bringing in another run to lead 3-0. William Monroe product Keegan Woolford helped bring the lead back to three in the bottom third with his own RBI-single.
After the Lumberjacks brought it within one, the Tom Sox responded in the sixth with an RBI-single by Virginia's Cayman Richardson. Later in the sixth, Jacob Selden hit a two-run home run to put the game out of reach.
Maddison Furman got the start for the Tom Sox going 4.0 innings and striking out five on the night.
The Tom Sox continue their three-game home stand Thursday against Woodstock before facing Waynesboro on Friday.
