CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Sammy Mueller scored a hat trick in both halves, finishing with a game-high six goals as Virginia beat Navy 15-12 Sunday to advance to the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals.
Its the first quarterfinal berth for the Cavaliers since 2015. Virginia will travel to North Carolina on Saturday after the Tar Heels eliminated Florida.
Maggie Jackson added a first half hat trick, helping the Cavaliers to a 9-5 lead at the break. Nora Bowen and Courtlynne Caskin added two goals apiece. Lillie Kloak and Avery Shoemaker finished with one goal apiece.
Despite winning just nine of 28 draws in the game, the Cavaliers stopped nine Midshipmen shots, with Charlie Campbell making all nine saves in the cage.
It was a rematch of the season opener between the teams, with Virginia also winning that game 15-12.
