Wahoos win at Syracuse for first time in decade

SYRACUSE, NY (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Mikey Herring's only shot of the game proved to be the game-winning goal as Virginia won at Syracuse 15-14 in overtime in the ACC opener for both teams.

Tied at 14 with 1:31 left in overtime, Michael Kraus found Herring who made one move and shot the game winner. It was the first win in the Carrier Dome for the Cavaliers since 2009.

It was also the first time Virginia won its ACC opener since 2014, a win at home over Syracuse.

With the Orange leading 13-9, the Cavaliers closed the fourth quarter on a 5-1 run, with Dox Aitken, Matt Moore, Ryan Conrad, Jared Conners and Kraus all scoring in the run.

Aitken and Kraus both finished with hat tricks for the Cavaliers. Ian Laviano, Moore, and Conrad finished with two goals. Kraus added a game-high three assists in the win.
