CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Long-term residents at the Red Carpet Inn in Charlottesville say they are upset that everyone has to be out by Wednesday. They say they were only notified just a few days ago.

"We have no homes. If we had homes, we wouldn’t be living here," said Taz Marie, a long-term guest at the Red Carpet Inn. "I’m angry. I’m trying not to stress about it because I got enough stress on me."

Marie and other long-term residents found out last Friday that they have to be out by Wednesday at 4 p.m.

"I came in to pay for another week and I was told by the front desk we are only able to stay here Wednesday and at 4 o'clock everyone has to be out," said Eric Allen, another long-term guest. "With me having anxiety-driven seizure disorder and my fiancé being autistic with a panic disorder, my fiancé cried himself to sleep last night. I haven’t been to sleep yet."

The owner of the hotel says he’s been in talks to sell the property to the Thomas Jefferson Area Coalition for the Homeless but did not expect the housing authority to take over so soon.

"I was notified Friday at four. It's a consortium. It’s the Thomas Jefferson Housing Authority, is going to be in charge. They’re under some kind of time constraint on their end, so it was kind of pushed forward a little bit," said Chris Tyler, the owner and general manager of the Red Carpet Inn.

Allen says he doesn’t think it’s right.

"I just think it's really messed up that Albemarle County and the Thomas Jefferson Area Foundation for the Homeless, a program that’s supposed to keep people from being homeless, is actually putting 30 people out of a hotel they know have lived here long-term anywhere from six months to up to two years or longer," he said.

Tyler says he’s notified all of the guests, even the long-term tenants.

"We only take payments a week at a time. So, we’re not obligated. It’s going to be a real boom to the community because I think it's a definite need for what they’re going to be putting out, long-term housing for people who desperately need it," said Tyler.

Several long-term guests say they have nowhere else to go.

"I have to find somewhere for us to go by Wednesday at four or we’re homeless," said Allen.
