CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A Charlottesville man cycled more than 300 miles to help get other people on the bike, too.

Paul Shockley, the Events Coordinator at Random Row Brewing Co., took on a stretch of 378 miles last week. He started in Falls Church then made his way through four states and Washington, D.C., and finishing in Pittsburgh.

The trip took five days and more than 31 hours of riding.

Shockley exceeded his original fundraising goal, collecting $1,325 and counting. The money will go toward supporting the free kids bike program at Community Bikes, which provides bikes to kids in need ages 12 and younger.

"I mean they're helping families, they're helping kids get bikes that otherwise might not have the opportunity to," Shockley said. "So just having them be able to do the outreach and provide bikes for kids to bike at a young age and hopefully be able to do it when they might not have had the opportunity is great."

Bike to Work Week is May 17 to 23. Shockley said he's already preparing for his next big trip.
