CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Charlottesville Police Department is investigating a shots fired incident that occurred Monday night.

According to police, the incident occurred at the intersection of King Street and Paton Street, a few blocks away from the University of Virginia Health System.

Officers responded to the call around 8 p.m.

The forensics team is still on the scene trying to figure out what happened, such as which direction the suspect or suspects were firing and which direction they went.

So far, more than a dozen casings have been recovered.

A man who lives on the street says it happened very fast and he thought the noise was fireworks until he heard a car speeding away

"Approximately 14 casings in the street. At this time, no one's been hit, no houses, no vehicles," said Sergeant Jake Via with CPD.

At this time, there is no word on what kind of gun may have been used or how many people may have been involved.

There was another shots fired incident on Monticello Avenue just a week ago.

Police say there have been more than 120 shots fired incidents in the city so far this year.
