Nonprofit searching for deployed service members, making care packages
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The nonprofit Blue Star Families is asking members of the community if they know any deployed military service members.
The organization wants to make care packages for them. It sends out more than 350 kits a year.
Central Virginia Chapter Organization President Martha Horsfall says they'll begin making care packages on Sept. 14.
She says Blue Stars is accepting donations like canned goods and toiletries.
Horsfall says they also take written letters to give to soldiers.
"The one thing that the service members seem to always talk about, after they open their package and shared it with everybody they're near, is the notes from people who do not know them have written," she said.
Horsfall adds the entire service is free.
