CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A fire truck is heading Winneba, Ghana, one of Charlottesville's sister cities.

According to a release, the Charlottesville Fire Department is donating the fire truck, a 2003 Pierce Quantum.

This truck has been a part of the city's fire protection fleet for nearly 20 years, serving as Engine 7 at the Ridge Street Fire Station before it was moved to being a reserve engine.

The release says this was the engine the department has that had an electronic onboard foam/firefighting agent proportioning system.

It was used for several years to respond to hazardous material incidents and its estimated value is $25,000.

Since it became a reserve engine, it has filled in for other frontline units on a day-to-day basis while other trucks were out for repair.

This fire truck was removed from service in 2020 and CFD is giving it to the Charlottesville Fire Company.

The Charlottesville Fire Company then plans to donate to Winneba, which has indicated a need for the truck.

On Dec. 2, Corey Harris and his band as well as the African dance troupe Chihamba will be holding a benefit show for the Charlottesville-Winneba Foundation, the proceeds of which will support the cost of sending the fire truck to Africa.
