CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Burley Restoration Project was awarded funding through the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation to continue renovation work at the Burley Middle School's sports complex.

It received grants from Local Enriched Communities and Bama Works totaling $15,000.

The money will be used to gather content that will be displayed along the newly imagined Jackson P. Burley Walk of Fame to recognize students that were present during segregation.

Jeff Burton, the chief vision officer for the project, says it’s nice to see people work together around this kind of design.

"It has been heartwarming to see how this community rallied around this project, specifically the subject of racial equity in our community," he said.

The organization hopes to have the first phase of the project done by the fall.
