CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- People who are experiencing homelessness in the Charlottesville area can get help accessing shelter and programs.

The city says people without shelter can call (434) 207-2328 to reach the Homeless Information Line, which operates between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Callers will need to leave a message and then an operator will call back within 48 hours.

There are options available for emergency overnight shelter.

The Salvation Army has 28 beds for men and 26 for women as well as nine transitional housing apartments for parents with children.

Residents looking for assistance should call (434) 295-4058 to see if there is space available. If there is, they can be checked into a spot between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.

If someone is traveling and can’t get to the Salvation Army by 7 p.m., a bed can be held for them.

There is a bunk-bed-style dorm for men or women rooms of two bunk beds with a shared bathroom.

PACEM operates a seasonal shelter able to house 25 people at rotating locations in area churches through March 24. This space is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

If someone needs immediate assistance after 5 p.m., they should call the PACEM shelter line at (434) 207- 1392.

If the PACEM shelter is full, people looking for a spot can be referred to an overflow shelter that can house another 12 people in the Salvation Army Warm Room.

Finally, the Haven has a day shelter that is open from 6:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. This facility offers breakfast, showers, laundry and other services.

The Haven also works with several agencies and programs in an effort to connect people with the resources they need to find more permanent housing and stability in their lives.

People who are unable to access a shelter or someone who is concerned about the well-being of someone they know can contact the Charlottesville Adult Protective Services during business hours at (434) 970-3400 and ask for Intake.
