AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Police say a man from Pennsylvania and two people from Virginia were killed in a crash on Interstate 81 on Monday.

According to the Virginia State Police, the crash occurred around 1:20 p.m. at the 208 mile marker in Augusta County.

A 2000 Honda Accord was traveling north in the southbound lanes of the interstate and crashed head-on with a 1995 Chevrolet GMT400 pickup.

The driver of the Honda, identified as 59-year-old Ronald E. Trick, Jr. of Sunbury, Pennsylvania, died at the scene. Police say he was not wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the Chevrolet, 51-year-old William K. Burns of Clifton Forge, Virginia, also died at the scene.

A passenger in the Chevrolet, 55-year-old Sandra K. Burns of Clifton Forge, died while being transported to a hospital.

Both people in the Chevrolet were wearing seat belts.

Police have not yet determined how the Honda ended up going in the wrong direction on I-81 or when it got on the interstate.

The investigation is ongoing.
