Hatton Ferry needs more volunteers
SCOTTSVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Hatton Ferry hosted a community day on Tuesday to let people learn more about the historic mode of transportation.
According to officials, they're still looking for more volunteers, operators and interpreters. Hatton Ferry is a historic ferry in Virginia.
It first debuted in 1870, operating as a 30 to 45-minute public ferry ride across the James River to Albemarle County.
The Hatton Ferry it's the only poled ferry that is still operating in the United States.
If you want to learn how to operate the ferry or share its history with others, click here. For those who do volunteer, organizers ask them to commit to shifts between April and October.
