LOUISA COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A huge investment is coming to Louisa County.

On Wednesday, the Louisa County Board of Supervisors announced that Amazon Web Services is planning to invest $11 billion in the county by 2040.

According to a release, this will go toward establishing two data center campuses in Louisa’s Technology Overlay District, creating hundreds of jobs.

It is part of AWS’s planned investment of $35 billion across Virginia, which was initially announced in January.

The release says the data center will make AWS one of the largest private-sector employers in Louisa County.

The centers will support computer services, networking equipment and the AWS technology that helps to connect people to their friends and family, work remotely, stream content and more.

Additionally, the centers will lead to an increased tax base that will support the county’s school division, first responders, parks, roads and other infrastructure.

“This type of opportunity to create hundreds of high-quality jobs and significant investment in Louisa is why responsible economic growth is a priority for the county,” said Louisa County Board Chairman Duane Adams. “We’re proud to partner with AWS to expand their operations in a world with a growing demand for cloud computing infrastructure.”

The release says the Technology Overlay District plays a big role in the economic growth of the technology sector and works to maintain the county’s rural character through noise limits, buffers and other controls.

It adds that data centers like the ones AWS will put in create jobs and bring in major revenue growth while not generating as much traffic or causing other community impacts that might be seen with other types of development.

“We are proud to reinforce our long-term commitment to the Commonwealth with our plans to invest $11 billion in Louisa County by 2040,” said Roger Wehner, Director of Economic Development, AWS. “Virginia hosted our first data centers when we launched in 2006, and over the last decade AWS invested more than $51.9 billion in the Commonwealth while supporting thousands of jobs. This new investment in Louisa County builds on our rich partnership with the state and we look forward to delivering and supporting programs that will benefit Louisa County residents.”
