CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Eight local businesses are getting grant funding to help support and stabilize their operations.

The United Way of Greater Charlottesville and the Minority Business Alliance of the Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce have announced this year's Minority Enterprise Grant recipients.

According to a release, these grants can be used for expenses such as equipment purchases, marketing and inventory.

This year, $40,000 in grants is being awarded to bakernobakery, Beyond Fitness with Sabrina, Cavalier Barbershop, Eudamonia, Justified by Netta, Khadija’s Kitchen, Loyal Beyond Beauty, and Rita’s Bright Beginnings.

The release says the partnership supports the United Way’s efforts to reduce racial disparities in the community as part of its five-year ENVISION initiative.

It’s also part of the MBA’s mission to support and promote minority businesses while leveraging local business and nonprofit partners to expand community wealth building.

The grants are being officially announced Friday night at the annual “A Black and White Affair,” an event celebrating minority-owned businesses, grant recipients and the MBA’s members and partners.
