DALE CITY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A former Army officer is launching a campaign to represent the Seventh Congressional District of Virginia.

Yevgeny “Eugene” Vindman, one of the twin officers who were targeted by former President Donald Trump for their roles in his impeachment scandal, announced his campaign this week.

According to Military Times, the 48-year-old Democrat could appear on the same ballot as Trump, who is looking to run for the White House again in 2024.

Vindman is a Ukrainian immigrant who served as the deputy legal adviser for the National Security Council under Trump.

He and his brother, Alexander, gained public attention when Alexander testified to Congress about phone calls between Trump and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Both Vindman brothers were eventually forced out of their positions in the wake of Trump’s first impeachment.

Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger announced on Monday that she would not be seeking re-election to her seat in the House of Representatives. Instead, she is running to be the next governor of Virginia.
