FLUVANNA COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help after someone may have intentionally harmed a pet.

According to the sheriff’s office, Animal Control Officers responded to a call about a cat from the Lake Monticello community on Jan. 6.

It was reported that sometime during the night before, the cat, named Shadwell, had been injured in the area of Colonial Road and Jefferson Drive.

When officers got to the scene, they found Shadwell was severely hurt, and despite efforts to help, the decision was made to euthanize him.

The sheriff’s office believes Shadwell’s injuries were intentionally inflected and the incident is being investigated as a potential case of animal cruelty.

Anyone who may have seen or heard anything in connection with this incident is asked to call the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Section at (434) 589-8211.
