ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- With big elections coming up, candidates from the 5th District Democratic Party hosted a meet and greet at Potter's Craft Cider for the community to get to know current representative Bob Good’s opposition.

The cidery was filled to the brim Saturday for a meet and greet with 5th Congressional District Democratic Candidates.

People stopped by to meet the four announced candidates Paul Riley, Gary Terry, Toby Braden Johnson, and Gloria Witt.

“We know that our current congressman representative Bob Good has not been good for us. So all of us are feeling the need to create change. And we create change at the ballot box,” Gloria Witt said.

The four candidates had stations set up around the jammed packed room for the public to get to know them and hear out their policies. Each candidate is working to receive their 1000 signatures in order to be eligible to run in the primary.

“The first hurdle we have to achieve is obtaining 1000 plus signatures to get our names on the ballot for the June 18th primary,” Witt said.

Among the attendees were multiple UVA students who shared their passions for politics and met with the potential candidates.

“We should not only be in government but also trying to ensure the government should be working for us, and everyone in the best ways,” UVA student Soirse Ferrell said.

Attendees were able to enjoy the cider throughout the afternoon and helped the candidates gather more signatures with the goal of running in the primary in June.
