CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS)-- Payton Cormier became the UVA all time leading goal scorer Saturday afternoon in Virginia's 14-10 win over Richmond.

The Spiders jumped ahead first scoring the first two goals of the day but Virginia found both equalizers off the stick of McCabe Millon. The freshman scored back to back goals to tie it up with five minutes to play in the opening quarter. Richmond took control again thanks to a goal from a man up situation but then Virgnia regained control again, with three straight goals to cap the first quarter. Virginia led 5-3 at the end of the first. After trading goals in the second quarter Cormier nabbed his first goal of the game midway through the second to put Virginia up 7-5 at half.

Joey Terenzi opened the second half with a goal of a hidden ball play. After the Terenzi goal, Richmond orchestrated a 4-1 run to tie the game for the first time since the first quarter. Jack Boyden’s second goal broke the tie and was the final goal scored of the third as UVA clung to a 10-9 lead entering the fourth.

Virginia regained control of the game in the final frame thanks to eight Richmond turnovers. Cormier broke the record on his second goal of the day with 13:39 to play. Two minutes later he tacked on his third score. The Spiders’ lone goal of the fourth came with 11:12 to play and Colsey added two insurance goals, also the game’s final two.

Virginia is now off to a 2-0 start for the seventh time under Lars Tiffany. The Cavaliers return to Klöckner Stadium to host Ohio State Sunday at 1pm.
