GREENE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A total of 622 people sped through a school zone in Greene County during the last two weeks, according to new speed camera data.

The sheriff’s office installed speed cameras at both school zones in Greene. The cameras activate one minute after the light flashes and report any car driving 11 miles per hour over the speed limit.

During the first two weeks of the cameras trial, the sheriff's office said the highest speed recorded was 30 miles over the speed limit and 75 percent of speeders were not from Greene County.

The cameras are still in a 30-day trial period. They will start giving $100 fines to speeders starting on March 15th.
