WASHINGTON (CBS19 NEWS) -- The deadline to avoid a government shutdown on Friday is fast approaching and Congress seems to be working quickly to pass a bill.

A new new deal has come from negotiators in the House and Senate.

Senator Tim Kaine says the bill has funding for many Virginia priorities.

"Just like the last bill included about $140 million of funding for community-initiated projects that Senator Warner and I battled for, this bill will contain significant numbers of those projects as well," Kaine said.

Kaine says if they need to, they'll extend the deadline through the weekend.
