ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A student at Albemarle High School was named the winner of the Virginia Lottery Thank a Teacher Art Contest.

Helen Hou submitted a piece of art that will go on the back of thank-you cards that will be distributed to teachers all across the Commonwealth for Teacher Appreciation Week.

“This artwork is a metaphor comparing the teachers to soil filled with knowledge and experiences helping the seeds, in this case, the students, blossom into big tall trees and help them achieve their dreams or goals and their ambitions,” said Hou.

She says she was encouraged by her art teacher to enter the contest. Now she has brought back $2,000 for the art program at AHS. She said she’s excited that her artwork will be a part of thanking the teachers who have impacted her life.
