CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Nine unanswered goals in the second quarter helped No. 11 Virginia get back in the win column with a 16-8 win over VCU Wednesday evening. 

Katia Carnevale led the Cavalier offense, netting five goals and two assists, while Mackenzie Hoeg finished with four goals, Kate Miller netted three goals and Kiki Shaw found the back of the net twice. 

Virginia opened the evening with the first two goals from Hoeg and Carnevale 90 seconds apart. Kiley Kozak got the visitors on the board shortly after and the Cavaliers held a one-goal advantage until the end of the first quarter. 

In the second quarter, Jenna Dinardo opened the scoring from behind the arc and from there, the Cavaliers poured it on to take a 13-3 halftime lead. 

Virginia return to action on Saturday when they take on Louisville on the road at 11:30 a.m.
