CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Former Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Heath Miller has been named the acting head coach for the St. Anne's-Belfield football team in 2024-25.

Health Miller succeeds Joe Sandoe, who is leaving at the end of June to return to Greater Atlanta Christian School.

“I’m looking forward to leading the Saints football program for the 2024 season," said Miller. "I hope to build off of the solid foundation that Coach Sandoe has worked tirelessly to build. It’s my goal to field a team that models the proper values on the field and off.”

Considered one of the greatest tight ends in Steelers history, Heath Miller played for 11 seasons after being drafted by the Steelers in the first round of the 2005 draft. He was a key part of their Super Bowl XL and XLIII championship teams and was named MVP in 2012.

Heath Miller and his wife, Miller, have strong ties to the community as both are alumni of the University of Virginia. Their four children attend St. Anne’s-Belfield.

“This is an invaluable experience for our football players to be coached by someone who has played the sport at the highest level,” says Head of School Autumn A. Graves. “And while many will focus on his impressive stats as one of the Steelers’ most renowned players, I know what is most meaningful to Heath as a parent at our School is that he will have the opportunity to model excellent leadership, teamwork, and character development for the future generation.”

“We are excited for the passion and football experience that Heath will bring to our football program,” said Director of Athletics Seth Kushkin. “And we are grateful to Joe for his wonderful leadership, tireless work, and passion he brought to our program.”
