ORANGE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Orange County Sheriff’s Office says it is getting reports of a phone scam.

According to the sheriff’s office, residents are getting calls telling them they have missed jury duty.

The caller identifies themselves as a deputy or police officer and demands the victim pay or face arrest.

However, law enforcement agencies do not call people and request money, gift cards, Bitcoin payments or any other form of financial compensation over the phone.

Anyone who receives a call of this nature should not send any money in any form or provide the caller with any personal or financial information.

Instead, the person is encouraged to hang up the phone and contact their local law enforcement agency directly to report the incident.
