CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The gunman in Charlottesville's first homicide of the year is still on the loose.

The suspect's identity is one of many questions the Charlottesville Police Department has not been able to tell the public since the murder on Tuesday night.

It happened at around 7:30 at 12th Street and Rosser Avenue. CPD found 31-year-old Deqwane Brown in a car. Brown had been shot multiple times and died at the scene.

CPD spokesperson Kyle Ervin said officials can’t confirm if it was an isolated incident or not.

"Detectives have been doing and will keep doing everything that they can to keep violence and guns off our streets. They're working diligently on this case right now," he said.

Police have talked to multiple witnesses and have collected surveillance video from a nearby market. They have yet to announce a suspect.

"It's disheartening, we don't want anyone with guns in our city, we don't want violence in our city," Ervin said.
