CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Virginia earned its first win over Boston College since 2016 in a dramatic 13-12 overtime win Saturday afternoon. Freshmen Madison Alaimo came through in the clutch, scoring the game-winning goal in the extra period.

"Just so much joy for this group, for the seniors, but for the whole entire team and our support group and our coaches, " Virginia women's lacrosse coach Sonia LaMonica said after the game. "The grit and the fire and the hunger that this team showed. Seeing our youngsters step up in some huge moments and seeing our seniors making some big days."

One of those youngsters that had a solid performance was midfielder Kate Galica, who led the team with three goals this afternoon.

"It's huge for us because we take every game bit by bit and today I think we focused on each quarter and winning each quarter and I think that is huge for us because all of us are talented," Galica said.

In cage, Mel Josephson was outstanding making six first-half saves to help Virginia build a five-goal cushion. Josephson ended the game with 10 saves marking her eighth double-digit save performance. The Cavalier defense was immense holding the third-highest scoring offense in NCAA Division I to just four goals in the first half and 12 for the game.

The Cavaliers conclude the regular season on Wednesday when they head down to Blacksburg to take on Virginia Tech at 7 p.m.
