CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- University of Virginia President Jim Ryan completed his 13th consecutive Boston Marathon on Monday.

But this year’s race set a record in his fundraising efforts.

According to a release, Ryan raised more than $51,500 for the UVA Children’s Hospital, making this his most successful “Run with Jim” marathon campaign so far.

Since 2018, Ryan has represented various causes including teachers, veterans and nurses. Over the years, he has raised more than $100,000.

The release says more than 1,000 people donated to this year’s campaign, including 39 who gave $260 and who designated names that were printed on the back of Ryan’s jersey.

Ryan was joined by alumni Jaden Evans and Audrey Himes as well as history professor Brian Owensby.

And the UVA Club of Boston staffed the hydration station at Mile Marker 25, cheering Ryan and other UVA-affiliated runners on as they passed.

In 2023, Ryan ran in memory of Devin Chandler, D’Sean Perry, and Lavel Davis, Jr., the three UVA football players killed in the November 2022 shooting on Grounds.
