ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- One person was killed in a DUI crash in Rockingham County on Tuesday.

The Virginia State Police reports the crash occurred around 9:30 a.m. on the 5500 block of Bryant Hollow Road.

Police say a 2020 Hyundai Elantra was heading east on Bryant Hollow Road.

A passenger was riding on the hood of the vehicle until it went down a hill, which is when the passenger fell off and was hit by the vehicle.

That passenger, identified as 34-year-old Dymond A.S. Thacker of Broadway, died at the scene.

The driver, 66-year-old Debra L. Elliott of Elkton, was not hurt and neither was an adult passenger who was riding inside the Hyundai.

Elliott has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, DUI, possession of a schedule I/II narcotic, driving without a license, and failure to wear a seat belt.

She is being held without bond at the Middle River Regional Jail.

The incident is still under investigation.
